One of the things I love--that's always a treat in these kinds of stories--are the little hints of things to come. I have a friend who always says, "Just once I want to see a story set in 1909 where the *hero* says cars are a fad and the *bad guy* thinks cars are the way of the future." Meaning that everything's always so clearly weighted towards smart people seeing the way things "should be", which is the way they will be.
Which is a long-way-round of saying that I love that you don't do that, but that there are little nods to the future that are natural. Like Ryan mentioning the television, looking ahead to the future but in a way that his character totally would. Of course somebody who worked in radio would see that some people have an advantage when they're seen.
But even better is the "It's like you have ESP, but for homosexuals!" Gay-dar exists, it just hasn't been patented yet!
The Simon/Paula moments all cracked me up, especially the first time Paula opened her mouth and sounded so much like Paula. Like if that dialogue was given to somebody in another story it would be bad dialogue, but here it's just totally the way Paula talks.
Finally, I forgot to mention it before, but how much do I love that butch air mechanic Amanda the ex-debutante went to Smith? I'll bet there's a plaque for her in her house today. I'm trying to think of what house she'd be in, but there was probably some different associations back then with the different houses. But I can't help imagining her wearing one of the Tenney House tee-shirts. Tenney House: All doubles; no closets!
