FST: A Dream That Could Not Last
The soundtrack for my story A Dream That Could Not Last, an American Idol AU set in 1939 London, when everyone knew war was on the horizon but no one was sure when or how it would arrive, and three groups of (mostly) Americans—pilots who joined the RAF, singers and dancers in a swing music revue, and reporters for BBC Radio—realized that love of all kinds was that much more important. Ryan/Simon, Carly/Amanda and Kimberley/Anwar, NC-17, fourteen parts and 92,100 words total. (Livejournal | Dreamwidth | Archive of Our Own)
- Ella Fitzgerald | I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart

It was the sweetest melody
I know I lost heaven
'Cause you were the song - Ella Fitzgerald | Lush Life
Ch.6: Kimberley sings for Simon a second timeI used to visit all the very gay places
Those come what may places
Where one relaxes on the axis of the wheel of life
To get the feel of life
From jazz and cocktails - Ella Fitzgerald | Caravan
Ch.8: Paula puts a new number into the showNight and stars above that shine so bright
The mystery of their fading light
That shines upon our caravan - Glenn Miller | In the Mood
Ch.9: Kimberley and Robinson jitterbug, Harlem-style, at the Glenn Miller concert(instr.)
- Glenn Miller | Tuxedo Junction
Ch.9: Robinson holds Kimberley close and sings into her earWay down south in Birmingham
I mean south in Alabam'
There's an old place where people go
To dance the night away - Glenn Miller | Pennsylvania 6-5000
Ch.9: Dancing at the Glenn Miller concertPennsylvania 6-5-oh-oh-oh
- Glenn Miller | Bugle Call Rag
Ch.9: Dancing at the Glenn Miller concert(instr.)

Ch.9: Kimberley and Robinson watch the last song of the concert from the balconyWhen you turned and smiled at me
A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square. - Ella Fitzgerald | Sophisticated Lady
Ch.12: Kimberley sings to Simon and strikes a nerveSmoking, drinking, never thinking of tomorrow, nonchalant
Diamonds shining, dancing, dining with some man in a restaurant
Is that all you really want?
